Coldplay Releases Their New Song and Says New Album Was Inspired By Old New York City Graffiti :
Just the other day Gwyneth Paltrow joined up to Twitter and quickly tweeted that the new Coldplay songs were 'genius', as she listened with her kids at their dad's secret New York City show. And now the band has released the first single from the album, named 'Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall'. Here's the new video:

Last year in 2010, Chris Martin (lead singer) explained, 'The ideas come from graffiti art of the 70s in New York, where people were expressing themselves with paint. I've spent a lot of my life playing it a bit safe or conforming to something, even though I didn't agree with it. So I have respect and admiration for people who don't.' The new song doesn't really sound like anything inspired by old school New York graffiti, nor does it sound like "not playing it safe"... though as you can see in the above photo, they are embracing the image by holding a spray can.

(old news) Coldplay announces tour dates, gets 60 Minutes treatment :
You know you're kind of a big deal in music when CBS news program 60 Minutes decides to run a segment on you one hour before you're to compete in the Grammys. Guess that's what happens when a band is nominated for seven Grammy awards, sells nearly eight million copies of its latest album and, oh yeah, is frequently found on playlists of kids and their parents.
This is the borderline-creepy twilight zone Coldplay has created. No longer living in the shadow of its influences, the band has reached the point where it will forever remain selling out arenas and amphitheaters no matter how good or bad it ages with time (Rolling Stones, U2, Paul Simon, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, etc., we're looking at you).

Which leads us to, you guessed it, tour dates! Coldplay has announced a 14-date North American summer tour. Ticket sales begin Feb. 14-21, depending on the area.

coldplay merchandiseColdplay achieved worldwide fame with the release of their single "Yellow", followed by their debut album, Parachutes (2000), which was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Its follow-up, A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002), won multiple awards such as NME's Album of the Year. Their next release, X&Y (2005), received a slightly less enthusiastic yet still generally positive reception. The band's fourth studio album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008), was produced by Brian Eno and released again to largely favourable reviews, earning several Grammy nominations and wins. All of Coldplay's albums have enjoyed commercial success.

Coldplay's early material was compared to acts such as Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, U2, and Travis. Since the release of Parachutes, Coldplay have drawn influence from other sources, including Echo and the Bunnymen, Kate Bush and George Harrison on A Rush of Blood to the Head, Johnny Cash and Kraftwerk for X&Y and Blur, Arcade Fire and My Bloody Valentine on Viva la Vida. Coldplay have been an active supporter of various social and political causes, such as Oxfam's Make Trade Fair campaign and Amnesty International. The group have also performed at various charity projects such as Band Aid 20, Live 8, Sound Relief, and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
